The Treatment

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses a professional device with fine, sterile, single-use needles to create tiny, controlled channels in the skin.

The skin’s natural repair response is thought to support collagen and elastin, which may improve the appearance of texture, fine lines, and certain scars over a series of treatments.

Common cosmetic concerns

  • Uneven skin texture
  • The appearance of acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Dull or uneven tone

How it works

  • Skin is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied for comfort.
  • The provider glides a microneedling pen across the skin, adjusting depth for each area.
  • A soothing serum or product appropriate for post-treatment skin is applied.

Your Visit

Before, during, and after

  1. Before

Your consultation reviews your skin, history of cold sores, acne, medications such as retinoids or isotretinoin, and recent sun exposure. You may be asked to pause certain products for several days.

  2. During

With numbing, most clients feel light pressure or a mild scratching sensation. The treatment itself usually takes less than an hour.

  3. After

Expect redness similar to a sunburn for one to three days, with possible mild swelling, dryness, or flaking. Avoid makeup for about 24 hours, sun exposure, sweating, and active ingredients as directed.

Safety

Risks, limitations, and who should wait

Your consultation reviews your health history to confirm this treatment is appropriate for you.

Possible side effects and limitations

  • Redness, swelling, dryness, or flaking for several days
  • Pinpoint bleeding during treatment
  • Infection, breakouts, or a cold sore flare in susceptible individuals
  • Rarely, changes in pigmentation, especially with sun exposure
  • Multiple sessions are typically needed; results vary

May not be appropriate if you have

  • Active acne, rosacea flare, eczema, psoriasis, or infection in the area
  • Isotretinoin (Accutane) use within the past 6 months, or as advised by your provider
  • Pregnancy
  • History of keloid scarring
  • Bleeding disorders or blood-thinning medication (ask your provider)

Individual results vary. Aesthetic treatments are cosmetic and are not a substitute for medical care. No specific outcome is guaranteed, and some concerns may need a series of sessions or may be better suited to another treatment.
